An explosion that destroyed the KC Cafe on the Rackheath Industrial Estate on the 12th January, not only caused damage to surrounding properties, but was heard up to 10 miles away.
Norfolk Fire Services believe that initial investigations indicate an accidental gas explosion at the cafe, which had only recently changed owners. The blast, which occurred at 9.15pm, caused widespread damage and disruption, rendering some premises unsafe to use, but thankfully did not include any human casualties.
The cafe site has since been cleared and damage to nearby properties assessed.
Tilia Properties own around two-
Tilia director, Nicholas Hovey, believes that three or four of the Rackheath buildings will possibly need to be demolished due to the extent of the damage, and in excess of £1m will be needed for the reconstruction of two buildings alone.

According to Chris Hill, head of Business Support and Leisure Services at Broadland District Council, the build is set to take four to six months and is already in great demand by local primary and secondary schools, with projects currently being developed. At the centre, schoolchildren will be able to perform experiments, explore green technology and environmental issues and learn about the business world. Plans are also in place for pupils to visit the site whilst under construction.
The aim of the centre is also to encourage local businesses to become more environmentally aware, exploring such topics as renewable energy schemes and carbon emissions. It is hoped that they will be able to work on a variety of projects with the children.
